Michel Temer: Non-Olympic Games

Brazil’s former vice-president Michel Temer, who played a key role in ousting his former ally President Dilma Rousseff from power, formed his new cabinet despite ongoing mass protests against the major political reshuffle which has been seen by many as a coup.

Wikileaks immediately released documents after he took power which claim to prove that Mr. Temer used to be an informant for the United States, adding further credibility to the claims that Washington helped engineer the latest regime change events in Brazil.

On top of that, the interim Temer administration is reportedly planning to announce a privatization plan that might result in national assets being bought up by wealthy Western investors, undoing years of left-wing political tradition in an instant.

However, none of this is being done without resistance, since Rousseff’s supporters have pledged to take to the streets in opposition, signaling that Brazil’s political crisis is far from finished.

Ivan Tymopheev, director of Programs, Russian Council for International Relations; Viktor Heifitz, director at the Center of Iberamerican Studies; and Angelo Sergillo, Brazilian political analyst and Professor of History at the University of Sao Paulo commented on the issue.
